I was reading an article on the BBC News site and noticed their method of inviting a user to comment.
I actually almost clicked in to comment in spite of having nothing to say about the subject, since I haven't been using Facebook lately (though I do love Scrabble).
Then I realized: hey, it's the format of the feature that almost made me jump!
If the format could make a typically silent person want to comment then ...
Here's an image of the layout ---
Notice how the "Have Your Say" header is in red font: clearly indicates it's separate from the displayed comment.
And the quotes are large and in red font: clear indicators as well.
And, of course, the use of the comment shape to hold the quote makes it perfectly clear as well. Simple, clear, easy, effective!
I would love to know how many "non-comment-ers" comment due to this format.
By the way, I think "non-comment-ers" should be a standard segment for analysis .... what do you think?
